Schooling for expat kids

Post by aman kaur bhullar » Fri, 03 Feb 2012 12:36 am

Hello All

I know this is probably a similar post to others but I wanted my own post and one place for me to look for all the schools.

I would like your advise, my husband has relocated to Singapore, soon me and our children (6, and 4) will be following in July.

We are coming down to Singapore next week to see some schools, so far we are going to see NPS, One world international and SAIS. I have been to their websites, and we understand SAIS is substancially more costly than the others. This will be my first visit to Singapore.

Can anyone recommend any others which are academically sound, coming from UK I would ideally like the school they go to, to follow a similar curriculum as UK schools?

Any suggestions or scare stories much appreciated.

Many thanks

A thorough search of this board will turn up numerous discussions on the merits / demerits of the various schools, ad nauseum.

Use the search facility located just under the "profile" link at the upper right side of this page.

I know a few people who have sent kids to OWIS and pulled them out as they are not happy with it, be aware of this!

Otherwise, search the forum as discussed.

nut nut: i have searched previously and are finding very old threads, which is why i created a thread so i can get more upto date feedback.

do you know why the pulled them out of owis? This is a little cheaper than other schools isnt it.

We are also going to see oversea family school and maybe dovercourt.
Ideally we are looking for a good education system which kids will adapt to, currently my liltte son is learning jolly phonics and eldest joint up writing.

Anymore feedback will be greatly appreciated on any of the schools.

Suggest you not ignore International Community School. They are faith-based and, unless that bothers you, have good academics with US accreditation.

Just my views, as we went through the same decision making process. We have our 2 kids at SAIS or Stamford, as it is also called. They really love it and so do we.

We look at One World and quickly decided that was not a good choice for our kids. Just seems sad and depressing, but that is just my opinion.

ICS is a "Christian" school as Scarbowl points out. I have no problem with this, but it is very much in the curriculum and in your face. We preferred to not have a faith based school.

You will like Stamford and the new campus opens for next year, so very exciting times. Also my kids seemed to have now mastered Chinese from their classes at the school in a very short period of time.

Good luck to you!

The impression from 3 different families about the OWIS was that it was unprofessional, the teachers didn't seem to take their duty of care properly, kids came home without having eaten anything, not gone to the toilet etc there is no assistance with this kind of thing also communication was bad and the management was terrible.

Shall try and find out more when i visit it, and ask them more questions around this.

we will be looking at stamford too, and OFS, Dovercourt and NPS.
I have tried emailed Chatsworth orchard but not had no luck, however chatswroth east do not have any positions available.
