Does anybody know a place to enjoy Rock music?

Hi,

Just moved from Tokyo last week, searching for a place I can enjoy rock music either live or CDs. Your tips are welcome! 8-)

Try searching for posts by AngelJoy for gigs as she seems to be in the loop. Some pubs and 'clubs' sometimes have local talent that will play rock music but you have to know the right people for those. International acts, usually can be booked through sistic (see their website for available acts and for ticket bookings as well).

Otherwise, you'd have to settle like most of us do--the internet*

*internet radio, mp3 purchases, buying CDs online, etc.

My son and his band do gigs at the home club now & again. But that's alternative music from a local band's perspective.

Harry's bar at Orchard T (if you don't mind the crowd around the front .. ) the group Tania, once refused to play a guys's request .. "BON JOVI" ... The band leader demanded proof that Bon Jovi was a "ROCKER"

Around Clark Quay a couple of bars used to do Rock nights .. including Yello Jello

Though it is tough to find pure Rock bands ..

Please do let me know if you find somewhere that plays a good selection of Rock music and not just a band that's playing covers.

I've asked around but everyone recommends different places...all based upon the band that play there....I'm more interested in hearing the original studio version...up loud and drinking beer. One or two bands thrown in over the night wouldn't be too disagreeable.

Since Se7en1nch closed down last month I feel there is something missing.

What mystifies me is that Judas Priest, Evanescence and Foo Fighters are all playing within a very short period of time...so clearly there is an appetite for this music in Singapore...yet I can't find anywhere that would play their music in an actual bar. :(

Thank you ALL for the suggestions! Something to do on the weekend! I do have limited knowledge about this town, so please keep me posted if you have any additional info :D

I used to go to bars like Mistral Bleu and Geronimos in Tokyo where DJ plays CDs very loud. Live bands would be great, but drinks with loud music would be FUN. 8-)

Luckily I have a singaporean colleague who is a guitar player. I didn't expect singaporeans to be into the rock and metal at all but it turned out that there are some. So he introduced me to his circles. They mostly play in Balaclava on the top floor of ION @ Orchard and in Wala Wala. I still haven't been in Wala Wala but Balaclava is a pretty cool place. Every Tuesday they play mostly pop rock which is not my cup of tea but Saturday evening they play serious stuff - Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. If you want more details, I can ask him for more.

I have the same problem because I listen to rock and heavy metal and this country is not really a "rock country". The good thing is that there are many different people and sooner or later you can find what you're looking for.

Ye, Keef is a bit bummed about the whole thing....but don't think he had any other choice. Won't be the same without the place...but guess we all have to move on :( .

This statement confuses me, what is your definition of Acid Jazz? Last I was aware the likes of Deftones, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Primus, Beastie Boys, Ice T, I am Giant etc, etc... were not in that genre of music and that is only mere selection of the music that was on the playlist.

(please don't take that as me being aggressive, I'm just confused).

My knowledge of Acid Jazz is limited to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_jazz !!!

Nothing more .. nothing less ..

Maybe a music aficionado here can enlighten all of us ...
Then maybe you should be holding yourself out to be an expert then.....

All good bands (with the exception of Oasis ;) ). I'm yet to find somewhere that would focus upon playing this kind of music, in a non live band format. If I find something though I'll get back to you.

I did find an interesting place last night, was on my way out of Chijmes and heard some Pearl Jam blaring from one corner, live band...but I'm not gonna complain too much. Can't remember the name of the bar but it was just beyond the Hog's Breath Cafe. Don't know what the place is like on other nights, but last night seemed pretty good and the staff gave me the impression that the follow a similar kind of genre most nights of the week. And the prices were very reasonable as well.....at least for Chijmes, $6.60 for a mug of Tiger.....

I'm guessing you're a big Dandy Warhols fan?? :)
