Possible to get a maid for one month?

Post by gmp81 » Tue, 24 Jan 2012 2:42 am

Hi!

We are coming to live in Singapore with our two young kids (3 & 1) for a month in March. There's a chance we may have to extend but for now we have visibility to just one month.

Is it possible to get a full time maid for such a short period? Or even someone for 12 hrs/day (8am-8pm) ? We basically need an extra pair of hands around the house for kids chores / laundry / helping a bit in the kitchen etc.

If anyone has recommendations of a person/agency that we can talk to, we would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Where will you be staying?

I ask because without residency I understand that you are restricted to a Serviced Apartment or hotel.

You can get temporary maids, but at 12 hours a day it is not going to come cheap. Options re: that though can be discussed later though when the situation is a bit clearer.

We will be at a Serviced Apartment - its through my husbands work - not sure which one though.

How/Where can I find out about temporary maids from? Thanks!

This might be a useful starting point...

But you can also use the Search button (the one right under the Profile button) and search on 'Part-time maid', as it is something that gets discussed from time to time, and most recently about a month or so ago.

Will you be on a tourist visa or a work visa? If a work visa, then where are you going to find a flat for 1 month? If on a Tourist visa, you cannot rent private property.

Assuming you are legally able to rent accommodations where a maid would be necessary, there are a number of places where you could hire day rate maids (local/PRs) but they are not cheap, and would probably set you back in the neighbourhood of $15~$18 an hour with further discounts for more than 3 times a week.

There are a number of domestic types of agencies that provide different kinds of services in the link in my signature below. (Center column) Whether or not they provide child minder services as well I don't know but you could query them to find out.

Be careful of direct solicitations via this site. We don't allow solicitations but often they will try openly or via PM messages. Caveat Emptor "Buyer beware"

thanks sunnymorningstaple. I am not sure about the visa - my husband's firm is organizing it. I do know we will be staying at a Serviced Apartment though.

I will look at the agencies in your link. Thanks!
