Best cocktail Bars?

Post by DJDutch » Fri, 20 Jan 2012 4:00 pm

Newbie to singapore. Moved from Melbourne where I was huge into the cocktail bar scene.

Looking for places with a good chilled-out atmosphere, good for dating as well as meeting new people. Places with an exquisite selection of bottles to choose from.

So far I've been to Bar Stories and Long Bar. Bar Stories was great but the requirement to book a table/seat at the bar means I can't make it my regular spot.

Thanks for advice!

Ps. My favorite spots in melbourne were Gin Palace, Cookie, and Black Pearl if anyone can recommend something similar that would be amazing :)

How about an Irish Pub? Molly Roffey's has a great selection, both drinks and food. They have two outlets and most of the members often do the monthly drinking session there.

That's why it's his/her first post. Trying to drum up some business by using a marketing person. It was the first post. Dead giveaway.

What do you mean? TGI Friday style cocktail bar or 5* hotel type cocktail bar?

avoid the Irish bars for cocktails, unless you want Black and Tan I'd say!

Ditto to what SMS said. OP wants cocktail bar. And Irish bars here are great only because they are among few places here that serve good Guinness Stout pints, not cocktail.

Obviously muggle didn't read properly and was too eager to promote Molly Roffey.

I heard Nektar at Scotts Road is pretty good but havent got a chance to try until now. Klee at Portsdown was nice and they served pretty good cocktails but not easy to find, unless you drive (and have a GPS hahaha).
Not sure if anybody else have good places to recommend?

Gin Palace, Cookie & Black Pearl are 3 reasonably different bars in terms of ambiance IMHO. All are for "suits" but my experience is that Gin Palace was a bit "stuffier" than Cookie or Black Pearl.. maybe my experience on different nights. All good bars though.

Singapore side, try Tippling Club for excellent cocktails as well as Single malts (my drink of choice).. run/owned by Aussies & a Brit I think.. you'll find that in Dempsey. There's a bar there called White Rabbit built in an old church. I heard it's very good but I haven't had the chance to try it yet.

If you like Cookie then I am guessing you also like beers.. I'd recommend Beer Market in Clarke Key - different atmosphere to Cookie, but can be a lot of fun & some great beers too.

You might want to check some rooftop bars out as well.. 1 Altitude is good as is Ku De Tah. Just Google best bars in Singapore, there are some good reviews there.

Not sure about the meeting people scene, I've never gone to a bar in Sing for that purpose so can't really comment. I think if you want that then the club scene may be more up your alley.

jigger and pony
28hks

would include cufflink club but they made me a shitty whiskey sour... went back for something simple (hendricks gin and tonic) too much tonic in a too-big glass.

not going back.

I second 28 hong kong street. they have quite a list of cocktails and you can even request for something off menu and they'd whip something up

Bars on club street are nice for cocktails and have good happy hour deals!

I'm still relatively new to Singapore to keen to get some feedback for good cocktail bars too but I would recommend cufflink club, 28 HK street and also the library - its a bit quirky and probably not a regular haunt but they do some really good cocktails. I also really like Lucho loco in duxton hill - its a mexican bar/restaurant but really casual and they do some really awesome mojitos!

Love Gin Palace! Miss that place!

Have you tried Arab street? There are loads of funky little places around there..

(I'm new too..)
