And let me guess, you've already paid this "agent" a fairly large sum of money up front?

Don't hold your breath. He's gonna milk you dry. Only an employer can be your sponsor and apply for your visa. EPECs don't exist any longer and neither do LPRs. So, unless you friend is going to be your employer, Caveat emptor. "Let the buyer beware"

So you "came across an Agent who advertised in Indian Newspaper" and they turned out to be a family friend, is that how it went? TBH this all sounds a bit dubious to me. The key point, as SMS says, is that the prospective employer has to apply for an EP (Employment Pass) once you've convinced them to employ you - an agent can't apply for an EP. Or are you working for the 'agent'? Something's wrong with this picture as currently painted.

as it's clearly stated by the previous responses, get your interview sorted out and if you successfully land a job offer, the employer will apply for the EP for you. this agent where ever you found him from can NOT apply for the EP for you and if you want to check the status of your EP, you can always (after you have signed your offer letter and your prospective employer has initiated the EP application) go the MOM website and drop them an email by giving them your passport #. MOM will revert in less than 48 hours.

2 lakh Indian rupees = 5 081.63862 Singapore dollars
I think you should try this process out and let us know how it goes. Please also keep us up to date.

So the agent, who was a friend but seems to be no more, is charging $5k to apply for an EP that he is not able to apply for anyway?

Er, why are you doing this?

i have checked the new rules in MOM website, its stated that the minimum salary for EP visa has been increased to 3000SGD from 2800, and if i get selected the company will provide me visa, the agent is only cashing on his comission.will there be any kind of cheating in visa after getting it verified??

at zzm9980: are u sure that i should go ahead for this? and could u tel me the meaning of this "singapore got EP Lah"???

Ah, so this is not just an agent purporting to get you a visa. Rather, it is an agent who says they will get you the job in SG, plus the visa on the back of that?

Yes, EP (Employment Pass) still exists, but that can only be applied for in relation to a specific job that a specific employer has decided they want to offer you. Perhaps what you are actually looking for is an EPEC (Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate)? Those are NOT being issued any more. If you'd really "read everything" on the MOM site then this information should have been clear to you already.

That's all fine and dandy, but he can't just "give" you a visa - an agent can't actually apply for an EP; the employer has to do that. Maybe they can assist with the process, but since he's based in India and not Singapore, how familiar is he with the processes that apply here, and how much help can he really give from so far away?
i just need your help guys,i will post all my visa details and company details once i get the visa copy...
We're trying to help you, but you're weaving a web of intrigue and not providing the core information we need to assist you properly. So shall we try again?

- What kind of 'visa' are you actually trying to secure? EP? S-Pass? EPEC (not possible any more)?...

- Do you have a potential job / employer lined up, or are you just trying to get to Singapore in order to look for a job?

- where is the interview that you have "scheduled next week"? And who is the interview with? A prospective employer or the 'agent'?

If you get an offer of employment in Singapore the employer will apply for your EP, visa. There's even no need to have the agent in the picture (if you say below the agent is cashing on his commission) because if the employer is applying for your EP (and assuming the employer is using an agent to apply for the EP on their behalf for you) the employer pays for everything. You don't even need to foot out a cent. If you are going to have to pay 2 laks I would strongly suggest you think twice before parting with that kind of cash coz that kind of cash can get you a decent HDB 2-room unit for a 2 month's rent in Singapore, if you land over here to work.

Thanks to all of you for helping me:)

at mi amigo: here in india all consultants have tie-up with foreign consultants..and they only give us job description and then later on after clearing the interview they give us all the detials of the employer.
i will provide the core info after clearing the interview, i'm actually looking to get EP or S pass,so that i can enter singapore with WORK VISA.
i dont want to enter singapore for seeking job..
heres the step by step process

1) the agent has already send my CV to his main agent in singapore
2)next week my interview is scheduled and its online(through skype).
if i clear the interview, the company will process for EP or S pass.
3) the agent gets the original visa and give me the detials and ask me the said amount.

and i will give him money after verifying visa and company details from you and few of my friends based there in singapore.

@sweetgazebo: sir, as i said above. here all agents want their comission(their share) and here we cannot find any job (local or international)without paying..thanks for the info..but i will pay him after verifying visa from MOM website, all of you guys here and few of my friends based in singapore.

let me clear the interview and then i wil give u all the details about interviewer ...

one more request: can anyone give me a link ,where i can find the details of living expenses in singapore..

thanks to all again:)

Well, just so you're aware, each different visa has income requirements.

If he is willing to get you a job that pays enough to get you one of those visas, honestly it might be worth it. It's not popular to say, but if I was in a shitty situation in India, I'd sure as hell pay to get out.

One thing they might try to do to you is tell you you will make say 2800/month, but will immediately need to pay them back $1000 (or some other amount) OR they will force you to stay in their company dorms for $1000 a month. Just so you know, that is ILLEGAL. They're doing that only so they can pay you less than what the government requires them to pay you for the visa you got. If the government figures it out, you'll get kicked out and they'll be in trouble. Just an FYI.
