Post by torpedo2k9 » Wed, 18 Jan 2012 8:25 pm

Hi I am holder of EPEC singapore.I want to come to singapore for job search but i have some confusion regarding Passes. If I get a job in singapore I need to apply for E pass (for graduate engineers) to work in singapore incase of being foreigner, right ? I can obtain E pass/ S pass on my own or my employer can apply for it.I want to ask is the criteria for E pass same or different if I apply through employer or on my own ?.If I apply on my own then doing self assessment online I fail to get E pass unless if put very high salary. What this E pass criteria below for ,please guide !

EPEC has been discontinued. You were probably one of the last persons to get it!
But: They are not issuing long LTVP's based on EPEC any more, so if you come to Singapore for job search your time will be very limited.

Having an EPEC means you are eligible for EP. If the online tool says otherwise, you must have given it different information as in your EPEC application.
The most likely reason is your degree. EP requires a degree recognized by MoM if the salary is below S$8000/month (above that, no degree needed).

You cannot apply for EP yourself, only your employer can.

Thank you very much Beppi for information.Yes now i can stay for 3 months only instead of one year according to new rules. If I have EPEC ,does that EP criteria (S$3000 mininum salary) applicable to me or will the criteria different for EPEC holders ??? .My MSc Engg degree is recongnised by MoM but still when i do self assessment check,I failed to qualify unless I put some salary S$3500,few months back I did same assessment but i qualify for even lower salary S$2500 etc but now it seems they changed criteria ( I only qualify for S pass for salary of S$2800) .Does that mean employer has to offer me S$3500 salary to get me EP as it would be only variable part in my application ?Hard to get that much for a 2 years experience person :D !
Thanks

You are correct. With effect the qualifying salaries for the various levels of passes have increased. They will probably increase again next January if they don't in July. The fact that you have an EPEC has no bearing on getting the position if the salary level currently set isn't met by the employer.

The MOM said the following in a press release
Q1 Pass: We will tighten the educational qualifications requirements so that only those from good quality institutions will be eligible. We will also move away from the single qualifying salary of $2,800 today. Instead, the applicant will have to earn a salary of at least $3,000, with the requirements depending on his qualifications and experience:
Since you have 2 years of experience, it is taken for granted that your salary should be higher than the minimum of 3000 for a fresh graduate.
