Ask for your experience on infant care

Post by xl » Thu, 12 Jan 2012 5:07 am

Hi, we will moving to Singapore in Apr. 2012 and therefore are looking for a solution of taking care of our 10 months old son. My husband and I will work both full time. Anyone knows, ...
- Are there different infant care institutions for locals and expats?
- If yes, any differencies?
- How does the application procedure for a full-day infant care work? Is there a waiting list?
- What's important in the decision making?
...
Many thx!

There are no public (run by the government) infant care centres. Some are run by non-profit organisations like religious organisations, the party, unions, etc. Others are for-profit companies.
All (even the ones at International Schools) have local kids and most also have foreigners, but the ratio varies, especially with location.

Some have waiting lists, and the procedures are different for each. Ask them!

Go there, preferably during school time, talk to the teachers and get a feeling of the place.

Check http://www.childcarelink.gov.sg for a list of centres and lots of related information.

My daughter is at NTUC, which is the trade union congress and runs the biggest chain of child care centres islandwide. Since it's in the HDB heartland, there are very few foreigners in her school (which we think is good).
