I preferred Seletar, you'd be through the place in 5 minutes without the hideous bombardment of commercialisation that is Changi.

Plus at Changi you can't even get a beer or glass of wine at a food-outlet whilst street-side. And air-side a thimble sized glass of wine is $15++. And they call that world class? Pah!

It is well known that you are made to check in at airports unnecessarily early, in order to then have loads of time to shop, eat, make profits for the airport authority etc once air-side. They say that Heathrow airport is the 'highest grossing high street in the UK', and airports like Changi are not simply avenues of travel they are mega-businesses and quasi-destinations in their own rights.

Give me Seletar's corrugated tin 'departure hut' any day, the airport surely precisely met the need to quickly process passengers with minimum fuss, and get them on their way.

Ahhh. Seletar. My home for 15 years. Flew out of Seletar "Aerodrome" many times on the Conoco Grumman Goose to a splashdown in the lagoon of a little island in Indonesia called Matak. They have actually got a runway of sorts on Matak now. Use to be a concrete ramp for the albatross to taxi up on and a helicopter pad for transport to the oil rigs.

...unless your Berjaya plane gets broken and they have to send for a replacement to KL giving you enough time to die die die exploring the airport and the nearby coffee shop but hardly enough to comfortably leave the place for some more populated areas :P

Maybe I got lucky, but I never had worse than average delays there...

HKG beats Changi hands-down. But I prefer the cold-steel industrial look to warm and fuzzy. Wtf is with carpets everywhere in the airport? ugh.

The same selection as you. Currently, the airports i have been to are KL, Lankawei, Manila, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Wuhan, i think the Changi is the best.

Unfortunately my only experience with Seletar so far but actually I agree, in a fashion I like places like this too. Sort of like a small village, deserted railway station (at least comparing to Changi :)

KL has an advantage of being laid out like a Z so there is usually little in the way of taxi to/from the runway.

With HKG/SIN/BKK etc. the terminal buildings are basically all stuck at one and and you have to taxi for miles. Being laid out like a Z you are pretty much always at the end of the runway either landing or taking off and for me, that's the best.

Changi was amazing! The food wasn't THAT expensive, and there was soooooo much stuff to do. I had to spend four hours there before the rest of my group arrived, and I still hadn't exhausted the airport.
