If she's from Taiwan, she should not have a problem finding a job in Chinatown or in any Chinese restaurant or local KopiTiam as most of 'em don't speak any English there either. In fact, look at the advertisements. You don't see too many requiring English speaking, but lots requiring Mandarin speaking. (Of course, racism wouldn't play a part there would it?)

But with the MOM tightening the leash on FTs, she may not stand a chance to justify why can't locals do those jobs instead...

Girlfriend?

What are her qualifications then? I think there should be some companies doing business with Chinese customers, and I have seen lots of job ads where they focus on Mandarin, and count English only as a plus. Also, English is learnable, right?

It might be easier if you went to Taiwan instead, though. It's a nice place, I went there some years ago and loved it.

hey liamwang, I think that she has to learn some simple English one, at least conversational ones even she can't write them yet. It will definitely better if you two can invest in some money in this first lo..

Firstly, easier to find a job. Cos seriously, I think if she wants to teach kids, some kids nowadays also not v good in chinese also. Haha

Secondly, easier for her to navigate around Singapore also.. (without you to accompany her la, cos you have to work also right haha)

Yup, just my take on this. :)

Can check out private schools to see their English courses also. If she wants certificate, all the better right.
