Next time I have my carton of Lonely Planet guides down I'll quote from the 'South East Asia on a Shoestring 2nd edtn'. This was back when they covered the whole region in under 200 pages hehehe...

Years ago, in my first visit here, the veterans told me that you can have long here, but must be 'pony tailed' .. oh ... until recently, the SCDF HQ used to have a notice "we don't welcome those who are in Singlets, pony tail/long hair, and shorts .. "
Well, don't see it now .

I was just behind an older Malay guy on the MRT with a Marley shirt on and a HUGE marijuana leaf in green and gold shiny foil-like color--no kidding. Seriously doubt most folks know what it means, but for those who do--it'll be a very bad impression.
Of course, you'd be a hit out on Sentosa in those shorts. Time and place matter.

FWIW I saw a Bob Marley shirt at HMV that pictures him "smoking," but then again why would you want to wear anything associated with such a touchy subject over here?

Most SG "kids" have no idea who Marley is, they wear it because they think it's "cool" and have seen celebrities in the same kind of shirt.
I saw a Che Guevera (sp?) shirt on sale at Clementi Mall with Che in a Santa hat. Really?
I'd NEVER encourage anyoe to wear a shirt like that--I told an SG student to turn a shirt inside out that said "I like to party--do your legs open to the left or to the right?" Ugh--gross. He had NO idea what it meant. Talk about an embarassing conversation.

That, always happens. Some wannabes proudly wear shirts with FCUK printed on top and have no idea it is a brand. They thought it is a (clever?) misspell of their favourite word...
