Hi,
I'm new to these forums so be gentle with me. I'm an Irish guy looking to move to Singapore, my girlfriend is moving there to work and study and I am following. I have a degree in civil engineering from a reputable university here in Dublin with 1.5 years experience in that field. I also have a years experience with a large multinational insurance company as an underwriter. However I've since changed paths and I am currently doing a masters in Actuarial Science and hope to have 4/5 UK exemptions before I move over in June.
How difficult is it to obtain a working visa before I go? Does anybody know what the market is like for student actuaries in Singapore and what sort of salary I should expect?
Any advice is much appreciated.

You can only get a working visa if you have an employer. The employer has to file for the visa and it's only good for that one employer. If you want to change jobs, you have to start all over and the new company needs to apply for your visa.
Go here and do a lot of reading of the various VISA types and their requirements:

Wow a quadruple spam-fail in one. I think that's a record!

OP - you're in a good profession to utilise in SG in 2012. When the world economy goes severely tits up next year, there'll be plenty of locals leveraged up to their eyeballs who'll need insurance to cover the price of their girlfriend's handbags and to find a way to pay someone to carry them for them!

I’m not sure that’s a thing here, unless you hire an interior designer and have them furnish your house for you.
