A little positive Christmas story

Post by bobypf » Wed, 28 Dec 2011 12:22 pm

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know that it's still possible to get an EP here in Singapore. I was completely aware of what I'm getting into so I knew that my chances are very low, especially after having been reading this depressing forum for a long time. This time around I sent more than 50 job applications. One day I received a call by a recruiter. She spoke with me on the phone for about 30 minutes, asking me all kind of questions. She arranged me an interview in their client company 3 days later. The very next day after the interview they offered me the job. Less than 2 weeks later (today) they called me that my S pass has been approved and I have to start immediately after New Year. I still can't believe it but I just wanted to share my little story with you to let you know that there's still hope for the fellow foreigners who want to start here.

Congratulations. See Virginia...there IS a Santa Claus.

There was a time in the not too distant past, that only 5 applications would have been needed. Yes it's still possible. But the numbers, if you read the papers, have been shredded drastically. We don't try to depress, but we do try to give a accurate assessment of what the ground looks like.

There are definitely still opportunities to gain passes here.

I lost my job in SG a few months back and managed to secure another role within 7 direct applications to various companies.

My skills are very niche and not well sought after outside of my previous employer. I don't have any qualifications but luckily there was an employer who was willing to take a chance on me. My Q1 pass application was rejected both initially and on appeal. My S Pass application however was approved in November quickly and without fuss.

I wish everyone good luck who is going through the approval process. Don't give up! :)
