Cooking for Xmas? What's your menu?
Damn it, the wild mushroom soup is off
Went out today to get the ingredients, only to find that porcini are not called that in Germany. So I stared forlornly at the rack of packs of dried mushrooms. Seeing as I had no desire to return to this shop before Xmas that was that I thought.
I found an assistant who spoke some English, asked him if they had porcini, and he asked if that was a thing that went in coffee!? I said no 'Trocken Pilze [dried mushrooms]' and he said no.
On the bright side I was able to find some fresh asparagus soup, so I hope that works out ok.
I'd still like to try the above recipe sometime, but the other positive is that a good fresh shop bought alternative cuts out a load of work on an already busy day.
The irony is, I then went on to the next shop and noticed a porcini-cream pasta sauce, labelled bi-lingually. A-ha, so porcini are Steinpilze in German? Well blow me that meant that the previous shop did have them on the rack I'd studied after all!!!
