Cardamom has a very strong distinctive flavor pretty far away IMO from the poppy seeds.

true. The only other seed I can think of that looks like a poppy seed is a mustard seed..............but I think that might be even worse than cardamon!

try the only black sesame seed paste for cake spread, toast, sandwiches, and much more, try a search in Singapore or better still try the sample at Junction 8 Bishan second floor from Monday, or purchase from NTUC finest if needed before...,Though it is a spread made from crushed black sesame seeds for inside of cake mix.

The OP is after a dry ingredient for cosmetic effect in a cake, and you're suggesting your own toast spread. Well that's a bit of a fail in understanding the job specifications I have to say.

Hee hee! cosmetic effect! I like that black sesame seed it is just as good as strawberries any day, and with a Christmas uniform on too will make your day!
I may just break my weight loss program for a day and get pissed! A year without a beer is torture! Maybe my liver can handle one day the negative effects are not so nice, but what the hell it's Christmas! women are bad habits. Thought of the day! Women are like phones; They like to be held, talked to and touched often. But push the wrong button and you're disconnected!

Now back to the ready mix concrete!

I am after the whole package. We are going to eat it so it should also taste right!

For the appearance I guess the dragon fruit seeds are the closest match but probably not that available.

No, KSL's advertised sesame toast spread will do nothing.... but make him wealthier.
(And he knows it)
p.s. Is it fair to say that all you want is flavourless contrasting flecks of colour (in this case black)? If so I stand by what I suggested.... finely mince sesame seeds (maybe a spice mill?.... or a bloody good knife on a block)

Actually there are a few kinds of the poppy cake. This is the one I guess you have in mind:
but another and a classic one is a roll:
and lastly this one:
For the last two, well mushed paste can be of use.
The filling is made of the ground poppy seeds, almonds, some other nuts, honey, and some caramelized orange peels. I am probably more after the 3rd type at this moment. Sorry for not being clear.
