Maybe counter-intuitive positive indicator.

I've noticed some newbies recently (since the flare up last week) asking questions but pre-announcing they've read the forum, and also get the joke about Masters.

I'm wondering if someone who declares this is a person especially deserving of assistance, as clearly they have done their 1.01.

They DO get the assistance they need. And usually without the standing jokes. So you might say, they are being treated with kid gloves, so to speak.

Let's face it, if you come to Singapore, you are gonna need a thick hide or you will become a blithering imbecile in no time and end up going back home with proverbial tail firmly tucked between the lower appendages. But yeah, attitude makes all the difference, both from them and from us. Respect begets respect. If they come here with their hat in their hand, we have always rolled out the carpet for them.

My 2¢
SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers

All due to SMS, no doubt.

They are showing that they have at least tried, so yes, I'd be more inclined to assist them in this case! But SMS is also right, if they are still wet behind the ears and can't take a bit of back chat, then becoming an expatriate and living in a new country and everything related may not be for them anyway! You need thick skin for living away from your home country!

Good point Nut, I hadn't thought about it in that way before.

Well, that shows they have read *enough* threads to know these two...
