Tuition Assistance by Employer - what's the norm?

Post by mariah52 » Tue, 06 Dec 2011 1:32 pm

I was hoping for a little advice from others here on an expat package. My husband's potential employer is only offering partial assistance for our two children's tuitions at International School.

Wondering what type of support others are getting in terms of their children's education and if partial support is now the norm. Our last posting covered all education expenses and wondering if we should push for more support.

Thanks!

The majority now get nothing.

There are a number of expats living here on "local" packages - ie no rental and no tuition support. If you feel that your husbands job qualification / experience is such that he is their only choice then try, but they might just say no.

from what I've heard at least 50% of the parents in quite a few private schools pay themselves the tuition

it certainly is our case...

Ours was paid 100%, but there were fewer and fewer people in the same boat when our last graduated this year. I think a lot depends on precedent (our first posting covered school) and so it was always built-in to the package from '94 or was at least a negotiation point. It also depends on the origin of the company, your home country and obviously the wage earners' positing.

Good luck.
