Helper and Leaving Singapore

Post by Golf1 » Sun, 04 Dec 2011 5:11 pm

We have been living in Singapore. We are USA citizens. We are considering a potential move to Batam, Indonesia. We have a one year old and are planning on having another. We have had a helper for more than 7months. We absolutely love her-we have a lot of trust in her with our child. We want to bring her with us. How can we make this happen? She speaks English and is a Filipino helper. She holds a Singapore employment pass and works for an agency. We are willing to pay her the same amount as we do in Singapore.

From the Singapore point of view, she ends her employment and leaves. No problem here.

Indonesia is certainly more complicated: I am not sure if this kind of job is open for foreigners at all (ask the authorities there). In any case it will require a lot of paperwork, time spent at offices and bribes to the right people. (I know, I've done business in Batam ...)
Also, taxes and other fees are much higher there, so be prepared to spend a lot more on her than here.

A bit curious: Is she on EP or WP, when you said she works for an Agency ??
