Desaru JAWS ferry?

Post by boffenl » Fri, 02 Dec 2011 3:12 pm

Hi--planning to head up to Desaru, Malaysia for a day or so and I'd like to take the ferry. JAWS Ferry goes from Changi Ferry terminal, but has anyone actually taken it?

Good recommendations for hotels? Some look really fantastic but I'd love to hear personal experiences to help plan since it'll be a trip with my elderly mother-in-law in tow.

Thanks in advance!

We went to the lotus I Desaru, we drive so didn't take the ferry, must be quicker though!

There only seems to be two hotels in the area, the lotus and the one next door... Both seem ok, the lotus has a water park, great for kids, not for elderly folk necessarily!

That's about my lot. The firefly tour was fun and so was the fruit farm, although the mini zoo in the fruit farm was really awful! The animals looked neglected and badly kept. :(

Thanks, we sold our car about 6 months ago. We had driven to Deasure about a year ago and said the beach was so beautiful we needed to go back--and just never have. :(

If we do make it via the ferry I'll let everone know how it goes. Thansk for the info on the LOtus, yes, that's where we plan to stay as well since theu have larger two and three suite family rooms.

The three room apartment is huge, plenty big enough for 6 people btw, not squashed up like we thought it would be!

Why not have a look at TripAdvisor and see what previous guests at the various options had to say?

suposed to be good ferry service but it turned out to be ...

I just had returned from a Desaru trip book with Jaws Ferry via Swoop voucher for 4th - 6th December. Guess what - first they advise us their ferry has broken down in October and if we would accept other options which we did as we didnt want to disappoint our children.

We had to take a bumboat and they gave us $10 x 4 persons to pay the bumboat man ourselves. so this is the first thing that already irrated me and we just kept going as we did accept to take a bumboat. Upon arriving in pengerang, the pick up as promised by them was not there!!! and we had to call them and ask why?! and this is like an hour after we had left the changi ferry point! And after few phone calls, they advised us their local staff had made arrangements and ask us to take a taxi to the hotel ourselves! this is the 2nd thing that irrate us! i advised their singapore staff name cyrel, to ensure their local staff is there to meet us as we didnt have any ringgit on us at all that point of time.

upon arrival, no person to be seen. half hour later, the local staff name zainuddin appeared and advised us that the pick up was arranged but the local taxi didnt want to go. he apologised and kept saying that he is on leave and he had returned to settle this and to meet me and i said ok, please no more surprises for departure. He replied, no worries, he will be taking care of us. Then he said, could he arrange for us to go depart via johor customs with a taxi arrangements by them?! as there is no bumboat service that day?!!

I said, u go and see what can be done as i dont believe there is no service!

so i text their singapore staff cyrel to get the response they will revert to me tomorrow. Whole of yesterday, we waited for her response explaining we dont want to go via Johor as we have young kids with us. all these fell on deaf ears. they have our particulars and no way they dont know how young my kids are.

In the end, they put us on a taxi, which sped all the way to johor customs which took an hour and then we had to cross the customs from JB CITY SQUARE by foot to the checkpoint, and take the bus with 2 luggages and 2 young children on the bus which is jampacked!!!

Tonight, i text their staff Cyrel asking why their management has not called me and said they are not in singapore and if i am unhappy with their service, i can write in!! So ladies and gentleman, i dont know how many of you had to cancel your trip, but i think it is good you did. I will make another post about the hotel on pulai desaru later.

Desaru is a nice place to R&R but it is damaged by the bad service of these logistics providers.
