Judicial review to renounce citizenship before 21

Post by kraikk » Thu, 01 Dec 2011 10:40 pm

An 18 year old Hong Kong born Singaporean wants to renounce his Singaporean citizenship. Obviously ICA did not allow him to do so and he is seeking judicial review in the courts. This is, for as long as I have been following such issues, the first time someone is challenging a citizenship issue in court. I think the result is pretty clear but it will be interesting to see what the court says.

It seems I can't copy the URL here but do a quick Google search.

Good luck to him. This is in the Immigration and NS statutory. No one can change unless the President and the cabinets agree on it and a white paper has been produced. Only then the courts can decide.

It'll be like watching a train derailing--you know it'll be ugly and messy but you won't be able to keep your eyes off of it!

If my brain juice served me right, there were two politician sons who tried hmmmm.... using all their Mighty Power vested on them to do the ditched, both got hauled back in chains !!
A very rich , very influenced SG philanthropist did just that in the late 80s , the gahmen did cut a deal with him but the son still had to go thru motion on NS.
This is really bizzare and only a person in absolute dementia frame of mind would go thru this process.
