Interesting scenario. At least this is not a repeat easily found I don't believe. Thanks.

Okay, with permission to marry already given from MOM, you are good to marry without fear of retribution by the government.

However, You cannot hold two residency passes at the same time (e.g., a WP and an LTVP.

I don't think obtaining an LTVP will be any problem as the marriage was done correctly. But, the ruling from MOM/ICA on termination of the WP will cause a slight inconvenience as, unlike EP holders, They are only given, I believe, only a two week SVP to return to their home of record. Once in their home country, they can apply to return to Singapore. You can actually start the LTVP process before that happens but to be honest, at this point I would suggest you call MOM and ICA to find out the best steps to take and when.

Let us know what you find out so others who read here may benefit as well. Thanks.

hmm. i called mom and they said my wife can continue to work after getting married. but if she wants to change job she need to get a LTVP so that she dont need to go back to her country when her WP is cancelled. they also said that she can find a job with LTVP but they did not specify to me the new job will be WP or dependant pass.

now i got a problem is, dependant pass issit easy to obtain? or i go with WP better? coz i believe in 2-5yrs time the PR will be approved, it just takes time and patience

She will be able to get an LTVP easily enough once she finishes her WP.

The problem is one, purely of timing, that MOM hrequires, once a WP holder finishes with the job.

Once you get married, she can continue to work on the WP with no problems.

She cannot get an LTVP while on a WP.

MOM requires ALL WP holders, when the employment ceases, to return to their country of origin. As a former WP holder, she will not be allowed an an extension.

She can return to Singapore on a Social Visit Pass and apply for the LTVP or you can start the LTVP application before she leaves. (recommended). But she will still HAVE to return to her country as per MOM guidelines for WP holders. On her return, she will possibly have to wait a while for the issuance of the LTVP.

Once she has the LTVP, she can always return to work in a new job. Whether it's a WP or an S pass or an EP, makes no difference. Until she has PR, she will give up her LTVP when the Employment Visa is issued.

Just curious: what is her work ?

BTW, once the WP expires, don't try to "MALAYSIA" run to extend the visa .. it has backfired a lot ..

And for your question on Dependant Pass, DP is issued to EP Holders only .. not for PR/Citizens's spouse / children

sundaymorningstaple; i just called MOM and confirmed tat my wife dont need to return to her country if her work permit expires. just need to submit the marriage cert to MOM, and apply for LTVP. for her case she can apply for new job while holding a LTVP. also the benefit for a WP holder to marry a singaporean is that the levy and security bond of $5000 is removed :)

The key issue then, seems to be that if protocol was followed, and permission to marry gotten from MOM, then the rules change and a WP no longer needs to leave the country. That's great news and as noted, thanks for letting us know. Especially on the Levy & Bond portion. Very important sales point in interviews!

Congratulations. Hope it all works out good for you.

Small thing though, Yes, she can look for work on the LTVP, but if she finds a job, the LTVP will be exchanged for the respective WP or EP as the case may be. This won't change until such time as she gets her PR.
