Post by epec101 » Mon, 17 Oct 2011 5:54 pm

Hi All

I have H1B visa (skilled migrant visa) which was stamped in 2006 and EXPIRED in 2009.

Would i qualify for EPEC?
Any person who had expired H1b visa and got EPEC?

Any help is highly appreciated. Seniors, please help.

When I applied for my EPEC I relied on a US-L1 visa, that had expired 5 years previously. A Japanese SMV that was cancelled 13 years earlier, and a Singaporean one that was cancelled 11 years earlier.

Your SMV/s do not need to be current to be relied upon in an EPEC application.

thanks a lot for your help !

would like to ask few more questions

1. my previous h1b has been marked as CWOP (cancelled without prejudice) on my expired visa. hope this would not effect my application?

2. my salary right now in India is only about 2200 SGD per annum. what are the chances of get epec visa?

3. is it better to have it filed through a consultant or do it on own?

appreciate your response.

If you need a consultant to fill out an application for an EPEC, then don't even bother to come here as things will be too complicated for you......

But, if you just feel like throwing away money, please do.....

thanks for response, you are right, better to file on own, application is pretty straight forward
wanted to cross check because they claim to have experience and edge

is skill migrant visa sufficient to get epec?

would salary also be a factor in approval/ rejection, my current salary is only 2200 SGD

Please check out the MOM and ICA websites. An EPEC is a certificate which says you meet the requirements for an employment pass. It is NOT a visa.

If you receive an EPEC you can then apply for a Long Term Social Visit Pass to stay in Singapore for the duration of the pass to look for work.

I'm a bit puzzled here: H1b etc. are USA visa, right?
Why would they have any implication at all on a Singapore EPEC?

Eligibility

Foreigners who wish to apply for an Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate must fulfill one of these requirements:
Possess selected university qualifications
Be a current or former holder of selected skilled migrant visas

So, is this a back door to get an EP without academic credentials?!?

The reasoning was that they figured if they were good enough to get the H1-b then Singapore wouldn't mind having them as well. It's an old policy and probably one that will also be subject to a revamp like so many other things that have been sharply curtailed or stopped permanently or temporarily (like the LPR scheme - unsure what the final resolution will be on that program).

I think you will find that most who were on H1B visas would qualify for P1 visas anyway (or PEP's) so academics are academic.......

Academic credentials? They're so last century.

They're what people who don't know what they want to do do.

Next thing, you'll be asking why people with MASTER from top university get the mickey taken...

p.s. I got my EP the direct and full-frontal no academics route, no back doors for me! :)
