Relocation from Hong Kong to Singapore - Housing alternative

Post by Rswdb » Sun, 16 Oct 2011 8:14 pm

Hi we are a family of 3 (with a 3 month old baby) and 2 dogs. We live in Hong Kong for quite some time in the rural area, 2100sqf house with a little garden and walking distance to the beach and a 40min drive to central Hong Kong.

We love the quiet livestyle and we would like for our dogs to continue to have lots of space to run around.

We are planning to have a car in Singapore and we just wonder where can we find this same lifestyle. Preferably we would like a detached house, where is the best area? Is it the East Coast? How long it takes to drive from the east coast to marina bay?

Thanks in advance for the help!
Rita

There is no countryside in Singapore.
Detached houses with (tiny) gardens are available in many areas and cost from S$15000/month rent. There a few very lovely colonial bungalows with huge gardens that cost about double of this - check with Premas on availability and balloting system (you need luck to get one!).
East coast is 10min drive from the city centre.

East Coast gives you the beach. Dogs need to be on a lead, though. They can be off the lead in a dog park, there is one at the bottom of East Coast Park I believe, not exactly sure where it is. Can't advise on detached houses, but they won't be cheap. Plenty of landed property around the East that might suit, most are semi-detached. 10 mins to town is not during rush hour, but traffic isn't too bad in Sg. At least not compared to most of the rest of Asia.

Edit: Didn't spot that Vee Bo is spamming and resurrecting old posts :o

Bishan Park has a fenced park where dogs can run off the leash. There's also a dog run at West Coast Park. Note: neither of these are near the East Coast though.
