East Coast

Post by Crushbro » Thu, 13 Oct 2011 5:05 am

Hi, we are relocating to Singapore in March 2012 and have decided that we want to live in the east coast area. We are keen on a low rise development and would love a ground floor apartment with a small yard if possible. Is there any way of being able to view these specifically through one agent or do we have to contact multiples? I hear horror stories about the agents and would love to know if anyone has a really trustworthy one who will be able to find us a great place to live for the next few years. How likely will it be that we can find a great place on our own? Any recommendations? We want 2 to 3 bedrooms and don't mind an older complex.

Check a few of the popular property websites, and just look for ads posted that say "No Agents". On the guru site (can't post links here, sorry) you'll see at least 1/3rd-1/2th of the postings will generally say "No Agent".

The standard is generally for you to pay 1 months rent + GST (so add another 7%) for a 2yr lease, or half-month rent (+GST) for a 1yr lease. This is for an HDB. On a condo, sometimes it works the same, other times you (the renter) doesn't have to pay if the rent is over $3k.

Why is the poster above telling the OP they will have to pay commission to the agent??? I have never paid any agent commission and the vast majority of people I know have never paid either. It's only newbies/inexperience expats that get ripped off in to paying commission.

Posters, can we please not post incorrect information or bad advice on the forum as it's left to the long timers to mop up behind you.

Reduced reference to "posters" in the above post to a single poster as the other poster was deleted for suggesting they can lead the OP to "certain" agents - obviously against our host's policies on this board and actually cause enough to lock his account........ but I'm feeling magnanimous this morning because said poster has already shown his immaturity elsewhere - moderator

Incorrect information? I had to pay agent fee or whatever you call it and that's NOT incorrect information! Man, I just realized this forum is full of stupid arrogant losers.

Please read my post and see where you fall in to then

If you read my many previous postings on the subject of paying commission you will see I give sound educated advice on how/why you don't have to pay commission to agents. The fact you paid commission doesn't mean others have to fall in to the same trap.

I never said you have to pay agent's fee, I am just saying what I had to go through. Just sharing experience. If I knew a way to get away from agent fee, then I would recommend it. I don't think that deserves to be slapped on.

What ever for? What could we possibly have in common that I would waste my time meeting up with you?

Haha, that goes to show you're only a bully hiding behind a username. You live such a sad life you can't even show your face in public. You have nothing to show for. Sad human being.

I daresay, my face is a lot more recognizable, in the eyes of the public of Singapore, than yours will ever be, unless you commit a crime of course. But, having said that, with your aggressive nature, I would not be surprised to see your face on the evening news eventually, considering your short fuse and tendency to exhibit rage at the slightest drop of a hat or when things do not go exactly the way you perceive they should.

You'll be better off searching the threads for 'Marine Parade' and 'Siglap.' Other than that, what you're asking for is still pretty general. I'm sorry to say this to you but this may become ugly. We will have to ask you to evacuate the premises as we prepare to fight an impending blaze.

Thursday is classified as 'nearly' the weekend in most circles......
