"Purpose of travel."
"To boost your economy."
Well, I guess with the way things are in Shanghai and Beijing, this will be a hit with the Chinese. I don't know enough about Indians and Brazilians so I can't tell.

As it stands right now it will take most people in the world a year or longer to get a visa to travel to the US, not to mention the in person interviews and all of the other ridicules hoops one has to jump through just to visit. It only makes sense to make it a little easier for folks who have some money to spend.
I mean the bad guys just walk in through the southern border so why pick on honest people?

Getting a B1/B2 is also the start of a well-trodden path to residency.

IMO it is less about the terrorist thing and more about overstaying and illegal employment thing.

This.
This is why we have a difficult time getting US visas. A lot set precedents. DISCLAIMER: They found me worthy and gave me a ten-year visa.
