No luck with senior positions in marketing?

Post by gaad » Mon, 03 Oct 2011 9:06 pm

Hi,
in short, I'm experienced marketing manager (over 8 yrs) with B.Sc degree with reputable career and achievements from Croatia Europe. This summer I visited Singapore where I was amazed how this city is open to expats.
So I decided to try my luck and I've sent some CV's where qualifications have matched my experience or education. For some positions I'm even to qualified but sometimes you need to go back in order to go up.

To my surprise nobody even contacted me. I'm sure that my CV and resume match everybody's expectation in terms of form and I'm currently working on high position in international Ad agency.
I'm I missing something or what? Is my inexperience with APAC region a problem on senior positions?
I've applied through LinkedIn and Streetjob pages..
Pls share your thoughts..

There are a lot of people here already doing that kind of work. May or may not be doing it well but they are doing it. I've been working in the field for a couple of years now, and I don't want to discourage you but I've never received a single reply to random ads I applied to. I did however get very good response through in-person networking events, etc.

Without Asia experience you may have a hard time getting a foot in the door unless you can find a company willing to post you here because of a specialized skill.
