Folks,
I am moving to Singapore in the next couple of weeks. I will be looking to stay in a
Serviced Apartment for longer period of time over 2 months before the rest of the family relocates.
I am looking at the prices of most of the
Serviced Apartments and they seem to run north of $7K Per Month, at which point I can even get a 3-4 BR flat. I am looking to get your experiences with Serviced Apartments and the typical pricing.
Area: Orchard or Near Changi.

The point of
Serviced Apartments, and the reason why they can take such high prices, is (apart from convenience of not having to mop and change sheets) the fact that they are short term - rental contracts below 1 year are unheard of here - and that people without residence visa can stay there - they are not legally allowed to rent other places.

My company found a 1 room
Serviced Apartment for me for 1 month at less than $3000 a month. It is in Geylang however but that's honestly not a big deal. The place is ideal for a single person/couple whilst they make more permanent living arrangments.

Yes,
Serviced Apartments are absurdly expensive and part of the reason is because they offer
Short Term Accommodation.
However it isn't true that short term accommodation is impossible to find. It's not as easy to find, but it doesn't mean it's impossible. Try searching on Craigslist, Gumtree, RentDirect or .. There are short term accommodation options available on a regular basis. If you engage a real estate agent, needless to say they will not give you the time of the day as their commissions (fees) are pegged to the duration of the lease!
They will simply earn too little for it to be worth their while if they broker a lease for anything less than one year.

Could you mention what it is called? Might be of use to others!

I'm not sure if this is the same one but this is the
Serviced Apartment my company provided for me:
http://www.redwoodwest.com.sg
They got two locations; I stayed in Central, very near Paya Lebar MRT (My other colleagues were stashed in West).
The facilities are ok (was only there ten days) and it's far enough from the seedy side of Geylang.

Their min price is $5900 pcm, so it can't be that one!

Wasn't the one who paid for it so didn't really do a fact check; anyway, FYI.

Sure I can, wasn't sure that would be allowed that's all.
I was put up in the Platinum Residence, Geylang Lorong 31. Not sure that all the apartments in the block are owned by the letting agency but they appear to have a few. The company is called 'Style Management Pte Ltd'.

Very interesting, especially if the photos are honestly representative. I don't know of other
Serviced Apartments that go from $2k up. This is the kind of place that a person who has arrived and is flat-hunting might go for, especially if they are funding their own temporary accommodation (as I will be when I'm back after my current posting away!).
Don't worry about the link, the mods are good judges of character here, and can see you aren't spamming for personal gain. It is not like the near namesake forum, aka 'The Angry Board', where by now the mods would have long ago summarily deleted the entire topic...

The photos are certainly representative, much nicer than my own place back in Scotland

. And ye, definitely suitable for a temporary place whilst looking for something more settled.
I've been staying here a month (last night tonight) whilst visiting my Singapore office. And I'm hoping that I'll be a guest here for another month when I move over in November, now that I have been approved and issued my EP
