Considering a move to Sg. I have lived in Hong Kong before but would be my husbands first expat assignment. No kids. We are coming from a very car centric state in the US where you have to drive. For lots of reasons looking at Siglap as potential area to live in. I did the whole nightlight thing in Hong Kong so now in my early 40s hubby and I don't see that as the lifestyle we want.
Few questions:
My office would be in Marina Bay and we probably would not get a car. We could lease one if need be but looks like more pain then gain.
Would the commute be too horrendous? looks like if I commuted by taxi each day it would be quick but looked at gothere.Sg and hard to tell. Any Busplus locations in Siglap?
Where/any particular buildings/parts of Siglap we should look at? Will be
coming over in a few weeks so hubby gets a feel and want to focus on this area to see if it will work for us.
Any suggestions/help would be great.

The 196 and 196e bus lines would take you almost door to door, depending on where around Siglap you lived. Worst case, a 2 block walk to Marine Parade Rd.
The taxi is definitely a good alternative. It is "expensive" relatively for locals compared to public trans, but it is orders of magnitude cheaper than taxi rides in the US. Think S$12-15 worst case one way. Still way cheaper than getting a car, and you'll save living in Siglap area compared to something closer to Marina Bay area.

I live in Siglap area too. Of course taxis will be the alternative, but if you prefer to take the MRT, Kembagan MRT Station (Green Line) will be the closest. You can take it to City Hall to get onto the red line and stop at Marina Bay. You can avoid any traffic in the morning, the train ride should only take you about 20-25 mins. I love the Siglap area!
