Do most expats have nannies or other forms of part-time or full-time child care?
I would think this type of child care would help ease the transition of moving your family to Singapore.
What are the costs of child in Singapore?
Thanks

Those expats who earn enough mostly have maids (domestic helper). The cost was discussed several times in other threads (search!). They might or might not have child care experience, but they are certainly not trained as such. Trained child care will cost you several times more, but doesn't need to live together with you (as foreign domestic helpers have to).

Re: Most expats have nannies?
A friend of mine worked as a nanny (fully trained) here when she was younger. She only ever met about 3 others who were westerners doing the same and all working for very wealthy families. Most people have maids who are not usually trained in childcare so it's a bit pot-luck with how good the maid you get is by all accounts.xmarcus wrote:Do most expats have nannies or other forms of part-time or full-time child care?

I believe they are on the same kind of work pass as maids (FDW - foreign domestic worker). You could check the MOM (ministry of manpower) website to find out more.
Oh, when I was looking for nanny (didn't like the concept of maid) I was told off the record that you may bring here professional nanny from the west, but you cannot hire her officially as a nanny. The whole idea of making a false statement on the pass application discouraged me from trying it. We ended with local nanny, who is actually really good. She doesn't have any special training, is basing on her experience and also relies on our guidelines, but my son is very happy every time he sees her. It works for us, even though we are paying her more just for taking care of him than we would pay for the domestic helper.
Most of the people I know do have maids, though.
