That is exactly what he is asking for.... Recommendations from the forum if anybody has/is using a .com.sg hosting and from whom. He's aware that it only a list.

The same applies! I don't see him requesting the best in hosting and the link is definitely showing only domain registrations! Fee's vary quite significantly, for both domain registration and hosting.

So how do you judge the best registrar is what he is asking? and if host how to judge the best host, from half a dozen people on different hosts, that probably haven't got a clue on the criteria required for judging the best.

Maybe they should use some grey matter and look for reviews!

Then we might as well all pack up and go home and close down this forum, as all we do here is what all of us old timers did before the internet was available. We call up all of 'em and get quotations. Now, it's better as not only this way do we get an idea of the price we also get to know other things that a quotation won't give you, like their service standards for example. How easy is it to contact them when you want to change hosts? How fast do they act on it? There many valid reasons to ask for public opinion about registrars (& hosts as well). How well hidden are your particulars (if requested & paying for it)? How fast will they sell your URL in the event of late payments, and so forth. Lots of reasons. You, of all people, should know this well! :-|

Why can't he ask for opinions? I don't every remember seeing anything forbidding members about asking about registrars in the FAQ's. Maybe you can point it out to me?

You are right I do know this and even with the knowledge i have, i find the question a little too general and useless on the singaporeexpats forum, this is why i would never dream of throwing this question to anyone on the Singaporeexpats forum, when there are lots of specialised forums, with knowledge on registrars and hosts.

This may be true, but as we DO have a forum for Computers & such, AND it a board can caters to a VERY WIDE range of people, then there is a good possiblity that someone who lurked in a different forum has finally gotten up the courage to post his question on one of our other forums. Do you put all those in the PS threads on the same level as yourself? I though not. :-|

Anyway, the poor guy has been flamed to death already for all his other silly posts and ideas. Let's cut him some slack. (have a read of his profile/posts to see what I mean. :o

Computers & Internet would have been more appropriate, not the business section! Though one thing to be sure of is:

The organisation that communicates with SIDN on behalf of a (potential) domain name’s registrant. Most registrars are providers of hosting, internet or access services. provides services on the basis of its own terms and conditions. So, before you register a domain namedomain name
A domain name is a name within the Domain Name System (DNS), the system for identifying networks, computers, web servers, mail servers and other applications on the internet by name. through a registrar, it is a good idea to make sure you are happy with that registrar's terms and conditions.

Price in Singapore can be very significant. Just read his profile :?

Lots more outfits than those ones offer .sg domains. For example, I use USOnyx. Check their domains and pricing at

https://store.usonyx.net/index.php?/checkdomain/

I have been particularly satisfied with their customer service and uptime.

I also use Netsarius. You can check their domains and pricing at

http://www.netsarius.com/domain-name.html

I have been happy with the service and uptime of this ISP as well.

For new start ups http://www.netsarius.com/domain-name.html will help you apply for the grants for website build and domain registration, I think it maybe free, though you are tied to that company and it restricts the release of some control panel folders, if you qualify under the grant system due to the warranty restrictions on website building. They don't allow you to add your own keywords and description and charge a fortune to do it. Hosting and service appears okay.

Re: .com.sg registrar - please advice

I've came across two prices from singapore registrar. One is $39.00 and the other is $70.

$39/yr one is without admin panel, but the support is rather good via email. For example if you need to change DNS settings, you need to send them the configuration via email. My experiences were that they were quite prompt. Any it is only once in a very while I need to modify my DNS settings. The request can only be done during working hours.

The other one at $70/yr has all the admin function where you will be given a login in access with password and allow you to configure the DNS setting yourself. Again, I hardly make use of this. The good thing is you can do this anytime, even on weekend yourself.

It really depends on what you what. All has their preferences. So far I've been using 39/per for years.
