Hi Amjad, hope I helped.

1)Accomodation - (I do not know much about rent rates)

2)Transport - It depends on how much do you need to travel a day, for most days I only spend a minimum of $3-5 sg dollars travelling back and fro 2-3 places on MRT(Train) or Buses. If you do want to travel faster on cabs, the cost should be about 6-8 times more depending on distance and type of cab

3)Tax - Take a look here for better understanding

4)Food - On the average, a simple meal will cost you around $5-6 sgd
If you like to dine in restaurants and buffets, it can cost you from a minimum of $20 sgd.
If you want to cook, buying the raw food from supermarkets is a considerably cheaper alternative.

5)misc exp - Depends on the person, I do not have much misc expense except for movies etc

Jurong Island is an industrial island, it's quite far away from the city centre (or any amenities for that matter).

You may want to take into account your transportation costs. I am not sure how much it would cost to take a taxi from Jurong Island into the city. I'd imagine it to be somewhere between $15 and $25.

Moreover, companies in Jurong Island provide shuttle services, which of course, means you gotta follow the schedule.

Contrary to some believes there is a lot of life and infrastructure outside the city center. Jurong East/West, Boonlay or even West Coast all full of eateries and shopping places and in convenient distance to Jurong Island. Not so many bars and pubs but this is not necessarily must have for everyday and everybody.

given the fact you going to work in Jurong Island, that doesn't leave you much time to spend after work. So my estimation, you will not be spending more than $3000 per month , so that spares with almost 50% of income. Of course comes end of year you should be paying your income tax, which is not problem if you are saving 50% of your income every month.

And to barge in late .. if you are the 'taxi' guy, then salary will be extremely tight ..

Live like locals, take public/company transport .. and you are good.

On an average day, if you are the taxi addict, easy 40 $ or more can go for taxi ..

and as x9200 mentioned, I know enough guys in Jurong Island/Tuas area, who have no reason to even visit Orchard and the "city" unless they really need to ..

Get an apartment near your work place. .

tomcat123: me too am curious, but that's not a 'high pay' so to speak .. :D (no, I am not earning anything near there .. )

fxman: when I was attached to Exxon, we start at 8 AM and leave at 5 PM, and, that does give a lot of free time .... as the timing coincides with the shuttle service.. :D :D

And rarely does the employers in Jurong Island expect you to stay back late, and Not pay the transport cost ..

And when I hear 'tax' I throw up almost, when it implies that the tax is super high .. the tax is NOT so high, and anyway, when the assesment comes, you can always choose to pay in instalment .. so unless you are into borrowing more than you earn, a fair saving WILL suffice for any tax expense ..
