And even then, there are apps on the iPhone and Android for the two major vendors. Just use the app, pay the ~2.80 surcharge, and you have a cab in < 10 minutes. You can even use this to skip the long queue at a taxi stand. If you don't want to pay the surcharge though, can't help you...
It's funny that you insist you can get cabs :D :D

Almost every day, between 9.00 to 9.30 or 10, even SMS booking responds extremely fast (which makes me wonder if they send the reply before even parsing the query) "SORRY, NO TAXIS AVAILABLE, PLEASE TRY 10 MINUTES LATER.

And likewise, the night delays are nominally atleast about 30 minutes, though, at 1 AM onwards, except in Clark Quay, never had issues ..

The issue is that the biggest taxi company is the one you are talking about, and it's that company whose service is extremely ineffective, including phone booking/sms booking ..

Holding the phone for 30 minutes is pretty normal ..

or do you live in Sin Ming, so that YOU ALWAYS get a cab ?? :???: :???:

I use the iPhone apps, never SMS, and have never had it tell me none are available. I take cabs from Marine Parade to various places at 8am-10am all the time. Unless they have a very localized area to where a taxi is available? Some agreement to always have cabs available inside the HDB estate and not where the dirty foreigners live? :P Amber isn't very far from MP.

I use SMRT or Comfort apps.

Actually, the only time I've ever had a hard time getting a taxi for a non-blackmail rate ("Limo service" my ass) was about 1am from a certain "tourist destination" on Orchard Rd, long before I moved here and knew where I was agreeing to go...

I lived in Hougang and am now in Sengkang, all tHDB, so how do the above two areas fit into your grand scheme of things ??????

as for the tourist destination, not many know that place is OT, and taxi drivers waiting on the main road are like hawks waiting to pounce on 'silly ang moh' .. :) :D :D

I have no idea then! Are you on East Coast now with the same problems? Maybe I'm just lucky, maybe they prioritize iPhone app, maybe they know I'm the Ang Mo (which a taxi driver taught me means Red Hair, and was meant to refer to Gingers originally, but now applies to all caucasians) that regularly tips $1+ because he hates coins :D

Or maybe it's because you're travelling in morning peak hour hence paying an extra booking fee plus 35% extra on the meter, taxi drivers lose those kind of customers so I'm not surprised you don't have any problems
