Can't speak for all banks, but Citi has bucket loads of VPs. Even individual contributors have VP titles there.

Agree. I work in a bank and in my team of 10, there are 4 VPs.It's considered a mid-level designation. I know people in the age group 29-31 who are VPs and it is not that they are doing extraordinary work.

Just admit you're wrong, it would be simpler :P

Nah AVP is like a tea-boy who has brown nosed a bit, VP like head of the tea making project. SVP is getting up there.... that's like being a Managing Director I suppose...

From a banking perspective, VP is basically the first rung in a managerial role - you'll have a bunch of donuts reporting in to you. You might even get to sign-off little things if you're really good!; usually things directors or ED's can't be bothered with. Empowering through delegation!

Half your country are Mexicans who go like rabbits.

Hey your prezedint just let another 800k of them vote for him, er, I mean, allowed them work permits to stay.

Only peasants breed these days it seems, must be why SG wants all those PRCs in too.

Am I the only one who finds all this job title inflation utterly ridiculous (and rather pathetic)?

In the company I work for, every sales person has at least the designation 'manager' in their job title, even though most of them have no staff reporting to them. The other day I had a hard time keeping a straight face when someone gave me their business card, which included the title 'Manager of Product Management'.
