This happens the world over not just in Singapore, though appealing maybe costly too, and still no guarantee you win.

If you have owned something before marriage, the courts will look at the increase in finances after the marriage, it really doesn't matter that you owned it before. Your spouse has directly or indirectly been able to help you concentrate your efforts on what was yours in the first place, by law he is entitled to 50% unless you agreed a pre nup before the marriage.

It's a bitter pill for most people I would just swallow it and move on if it's likely that you will lose more, a lesson learnt!

Just be glad it happened here and not in the UK.....mine is just finishing up and I lost most if not all I worked for....just because the UK feels it right for a woman to be able to 'charge for bringing up her kids'.....when in fact in all realism.....the school did, the grandparents did and basically she was there at night......

In Singapore if you stay home and look after the children, they are seen as your children and not something that justifies payment for as my partners ex man tried it.....he got nothing!

I sat through a friends divorce case. Yes, the lawyers did seem to friendly to each other, but, once the proceeding started, they were at each other's throat, especially when the other side - the guy side - was not happy to any form of maintenance.

The judge ruled in my friend's behalf, after 3 rounds of hearing (I would say more like mediation) and then the two lawyers shook hands and walked off

The lawyer for my friend worked through legal aid .. or something like that, pro-bono, as the marriage was registered in Singapore, though both were foreigners

As for collusion ? No .. not at all

As for feeling the looser ? yes, there is nothing called fair in this world, and you got to live with what you get ..
