This is why I considered going AWOL. If I just lay low for two weeks and not make any noises, I should get my passport back (with a malaysian ep) in two weeks time.

But yeah, this whole situation would be so much simplier if I had my passport on hand. Now, I feel like it's been taken hostage.

Normally, if the employee's tourist pass is about to expire, they would give the passport back so the employee could exit to Singapore and renew their tourist pass (mine expires next week). But for my case, they are applying for an extension of my visit pass. As far as I know, I am the first employee they are doing this for.

If you know what you are doing, then go ahead ;)

BTW, talked to a colleague of mine, who moved from Klang to Singapore, and he said, that he was told to go and cancel his Malaysian EP, when he went to ICA (or SIR) to get his EP ..

Something to think about ..

Thanks for sharing this. This could put a snag in my plans. I am not sure I can get my current employer to cancel my EP.

I just talked to my recruiter in Singapore and she says that I should not have worry about my Malaysian EP not being cancelled. Maybe your friend's job in SG requires him to work in Malaysia. I've read my SG EP approval letter again and there is no mention of ICA (and isn't SIR the Singapore Infantry Regimen?) and I don't believe Singapore needs approval from Malaysia to issue EPs. In any case, if I go AWOL, I will most definitely be blacklisted from Malaysia. :(

Too many if's and buts ..

My colleague left Malaysia to work here .. and not was going back to work there .. he said MOM (then it was called SIR - not ICA) insisted that he cannot hold two work passes, especially with Singapore AND Malaysia ..

Ask your agent if they know about that ..

If they know and are confident, go for it..

Cheers

Did your collegue need his previous employer to cancel his Malaysian employment pass or did he do it himself? From what I've read, you need a letter from your Malaysian employer to cancel your employment pass.
