Charge for day of departure?

Post by macaroonie » Mon, 29 Aug 2011 2:04 pm

Hi All
Has anyone been charged for the day they depart/check out of a hotel or a long term stay apartment in the USA? Is this normal practice for long term stay apartments?

Thanks for any advice.

Seems to be normal practice in Singapore as well, getting the bill for one extra day, that being the day of departure.

Heh?

Hotels charge per night. Check-in is usually 2pm, and check-out is usually noon.

Of course if you're staying down in Geylang at some 'by the hour' joint, it might work differently :P

No, it is not normal. You should pay per night.

This is in the usa and it's not some dodgy place. Check out time was on time yet they tell me this is their practice? has anyone else encountered this?

I wouldn't pay it. If they want to make a deal out of it, call the police. If they cannot provide a piece of paper that you signed agreeing to the extra charge, they won't have much to stand on.

List their www here so we can look at it.

Any reputable place I've stayed has their standard T&C's all listed nice and clear on their website

For Serviced Apartments if your check in on August 1 and check out on September first you can get charged for 1 mth + 1 day.

Well now you're clouding the waters talking about monthly rates.

You have to be clear whether you're on a daily rate or a monthly rate. It is not that complicated.

$hit if you give me their phone number I'll call them up and ask them.

I've not experienced that phenomenon at a Serviced Apartment. My last night of stay is Aug 31. I'd refuse to pay.

Only a fool and his money are soon parted! I wouldn't pay for something I'm not getting!

These service long term apartments charge a daily rate if it's less than a month. So for example if one checks in on the 1st of jan and checks out on the 5th of jan, these people (and it's a really reputable hotel chain!), they charge 5 days! and ask you to check out by 11am on the 5th! They also charge your credit card on the back end so you don't see them face to face.

I am really surprised to encounter such a situation for the states!

Thanks all so far for your response and support!

I've stayed in several Serviced Apartments and have never been charged like that... only the number of nights I stayed.

Something isn't right here.

Can you post the hotels www?

You seem reluctant to, don't know why.
