I'm buying a bed in Thailand and need to have it shipped to Singapore. A few questions:
1) Does anyone know of a good shipper that would be cheaper than DHL? They want the equivalent of SGD 805 to ship the bed to Singapore. The dimensions of the bed are 3 cubic meters or 110kg
2) Apparently the duty in Singapore will be about 20% of the price. I've recently arrived in Singapore and my company has 4 cubic meters of my stuff on the way already. Is there some allowance for people newly arrived in the country or is there some advantage to having both of these clearing customs together?

Shipping from Thailand
Re: Shipping from Thailand
If you are in singapore, a visit to Golden mile complex can put you in touch with a whole heap of shiippers, who ship by "TRUCK" and should be much cheaper ..yosithezet wrote:I'm buying a bed in Thailand and need to have it shipped to Singapore. A few questions:

for 3: In Singapore personal effects are not dutiable .. but the 7% GST maybe levied by the customs. Normally shippers take care of it and bill you back.

Thanks. I'll head over there. I guess the shippers will know how to ensure that it is classified as personal effects.ecureilx wrote:

There are several shipping offices at Chatuchak market in Bangkok, which offer reasonable rates.
But S$800 for three cubic meters is quite cheap (rates go by volume more than weight). What kind of giant bed did you buy?!? A dismantled bed frame plus mattress (king size) should not be more than 1 cbm - and it makes no sense to ship a mattress, which you can buy cheaper here.
