Mobile Phone contract without EP, but with approval letter

Post by Chizzler » Thu, 25 Aug 2011 3:02 pm

Hey guys, hope someone could help me...I was looking throught dozens of topics through the search function, but I couldn't find an answer to my "problem".

I would like to get a sim card as soon as possible after arriving in Singapore. Post paid that is, not a huge fan of all the pre-paid stuff.

However, if I'm not mistaken, I will get a letter as soon as my EP is approved (which won't be a problem in my case) and therefore I will only get the EP a couple of days AFTER arriving in Singapore, right? Need to go to the MOM first if I haven't misread. And therefore I will not be able to get a mobile phone contract without the EP, right?

- Is that correct?

- Can I get a contract with just the letter? (probably not, right?)

- Can I get a pre-paid sim card first and then switch it to a contract after getting the EP without losing my number?

Thanks a lot!

Last time I checked, no. You can search IDA and 'number porting.'

I know a couple of guys who got a contract based just in the In-principle approval letter. I don't know if this is the rule, of just an exception. Writing an email to Starhub/Singtel/M1 should give you the most accurate information

I don't know if you're still researching this, but actually I got my Singtel 2 year contract with iPhone sorted through the Singtel website using a scan of my in-principle letter. If you're lucky you can also pick up some pretty good discounts by ordering through the website.

I hasten to add I'm not sponsored by them in anyway :)
