PEP working restrictions

Post by apollo_69 » Wed, 24 Aug 2011 11:35 am

Hi All,

I just got my PEP in principle approval today, so I'm going to look around for better work opportunities. The PEP conditions are $34k min salary per year, and no more than 6 consecutive months of unemployment within the year.

My questions are:

1) Are there any restrictions on working for multiple companies with a PEP visa? I know some companies don't allow it but I'm asking from an MOM perspective....the reason is I currently do SEO freelance work and I charge between $500-1000/month to get my clients to the top of Google, so if I could get 2-3 clients to put me on their books that should satisfy the PEP salary criteria.
2) If I was employed by a second company whilst still employed full time by my present employer, would MOM inform my present employer? Obviously I'd want to avoid that.
3) MOM says there are no restrictions on hiring as sponsorship is not required, but does it have to be a Pte Ltd or can a sole proprietor even hire me?
4) Does it matter the size of the company or their current quota for hiring foreigners?

Thanks guys :)

* The following groups of foreigners are not eligible for the PEP:

(i) foreigners who are issued with an Employment Pass under the Sponsorship scheme. Under this scheme, their direct employers are overseas companies which do not have a Singapore-registered office/business entity;

(ii) foreigners who are working or intending to work on a free-lance basis without any direct employers in Singapore;

(iii) foreigners who are listed as Sole Proprietors, Partners or Directors in a business/company registered with ACRA and are shareholders of that business/company.
Note: The PEP holder is not allowed to start his/her own business or engage in any entrepreneurial activities. The holder must apply for an EntrePass if he/she intends to do so.
You should be able to work in a 2nd job, but most employer won't agree to it. However, I've not been able to confirm it. It's pretty obvious that you cannot do any freelance SEO work though.

Thanks SMS. I had a look and there are quite a few companies hiring SEO positions, so if I could persuade them to hire me part time then technically it's not freelancing.

My current freelance business would be completely separate and is not based in Singapore, most of my clients are abroad. But I don't see why I can't use the same skills to get employed here under PEP visa.

ETA: Oh, any idea on Qs 3 and 4?
