good to know... i've always followed the card - and my wife is even more suspicious of persons swiping her card into the actual POS terminal (i can't remember why they do that, but i think for a/c purposes).
i think i should relax from now on...

The above outlines how it works under UK law. If your cards are not in that jurisdiction then obviously you need to check what applies in the relevant issuer's jurisdiction. It ought to come under a heading of consumer protection law.

But for me with UK cards, I'll use a credit card when I a) haven't the immediate cashflow, b) always for air tickets (as this gives an element of holiday/travel insurance!), or c) want to make ... what might be likened to an 'insured purchase'.
