There is a small fishing island called Tashiro (aka Cat Island) in northeastern Japan, where 100 people and larger number of cats live, and it was hit by the Earthquake followed by the Tsunami on 11 Mar.
The island was just a minor part of the huge devastated area where all infrastructures were knocked down... It was roughly reported at the earlier stage that the residents had evacuated somehow and seemed to be mostly all right, but there was no way to know what happened to the cats.
Now things are getting back under control and they've found most of the cats were able to survive the earthquakes & tsunamis and have been back to the village to beg foods. The fishermen lost their boats & equipments and the business have not recovered yet, so they feed the cats with the cat foods donated from across the country so far...
While the villagers headed for higher ground at a rush after the quake, they actually witnessed some cats dashing up much faster than human-beings and some frantically carrying kittens... It is amazing that animals have such an ability to know danger and protect themselves, while we human-beings need to learn from experiences and that still does not work out sadly...
I was very impressed by this cats story in a paper and wonder if you know any other cases that show something like animals' sixth sense or wondrous power beyond human wisdom? Not necessarily related with disasters but any small marvelous things you've encountered or you've heard in the world. I am so curious!
