about recruitment agency fee

Post by nopnop_nop » Sat, 20 Aug 2011 3:01 pm

Hi all.. I'm new here..

I'm from Indonesia, an I'm in the process of recruitment from one company (I'v already did the interview and design test) but I'm doing it via some recruitment agency.

Here is my ase, first the recruitment agency ask me to pay 5000$ for Spass if I got accepted.. of course i can't afford that because i'm looking for a job because i need money... hahaha

after i told them i can't pay that amount, they reduce it to 3500 $ (and i still can't afford that) and here's the reply from them

"Just tell me how much you can pay... let me talk with my boss regrading this...because if you are selected .. this is a good company and good job.."

what I'm about to ask is,
1. Is it really illegal for the recruitment agency to employer to pay?
2. If I still must pay, just say for administration fee, how much the standard is??

I hope someone can help me with this... Thank you before.....

It's illegal for a singapore registered recruitment agency to charge the employee a recruitment fee. If the employer is the agency itself and you will be subconded to another employee, they might charge you for applying for the S Pass, but again, this shouldn't happen, and won't happen with a reputable agency. Frankly, at the moment I wouldn't even think about trying to come to Singapore, let alone give a heap of money to some dodgy agent who is probably working through some local Indonesian agency and therefore outside of the purview of the MOM here.

Administrative charge? Again, a reputable company won't charge one, but if so, I'd not pay no more than $50 singapore.

thank you so much for your answer. I think i'm gonna see if I get accepted in the company and if it's worth it to pay even 50 $ to the recruitment ageny.

I was working in a recruitment agency before I turned to internal recruitment in an IT consulting company. I wouldn't say it's illegal for the recruitment company to charge a recruitment fee. Some fees are stated in the forms which you sign when you meet the recruitment agencies. BEWARE and please read all fine print.

by the way, S$5000 for S-pass is definitely ridiculous. Please send your profiles to more reputable agencies. They charge the hiring company, not the candidates.

So how about 300 $ for S Pass application, for example ? is that considered normal ?

And the amazing medical fees ? A normal medical is multiplied by 4 ..

All the dozen year I worked here, all and all, the Employers always reimbursed the cost of the pass - once the pass is submitted, along with the medical.

Recruitment agencies need to make money, but, i am not gonna make friends telling that most of the agencies are literally ripping off the employees .. and leads to the same problem employees, like Maids who loose half a year salary .. and then employers wonder why staff are disillusioned ..

If you company was charging the job seeker a recruitment fee then it is illegal. Full Stop. Administrative fees, application fees, fine, but not a recruitment fee. Good way to get the license revoked if found out.

Do you actually know the meaning of "recruitment fee"?
