Housing Options for 6 month contract in Singapore?

Post by SAP1 » Thu, 11 Aug 2011 3:22 pm

Hi Everyone

I have been offered a 6 month contract in Singapore but I have to provide my own accommodation.

I will be working in the city and wanted to know what my options would be for accommodation when it seems all leases are 12 months.

I don't really want to pay more than 5k a month and was hoping to get something like a one bedroom or similar not further than 30 mins commute from the city.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

not sure anybody's gonna answer .. but .. if you are not specifying your budget, nobody gonna give you ideas ..

if you are happy in a comfortable place, you can get short term rentals, heck, even 1 bedroom Serviced Apartments, for 5K ..

but if you are the type who needs 4 bedroom apartment et al .. not gonna say nothing ..

leases less than 12 months are available, at a premium, but .. not lacking.

if you set yourself to live in a not-so-high end apartment, then you can find it.

Have you been here in any case ?

When one end to another of the country is 1 hour how far is far for you ?? :D

Budget as per my previous post not more than 5k per month.

One bedroom no more than thirty minutes to city.

mate .. singapore, across is just one hour .. end to end.

hence my question : HAVE YOU BEEN TO SINGAPORE ?

And city - questionable where the CITY proper is ..

so .. my 2 cents: come here, take a look see, and then decide if you want a 1 bedroom apartment in Orchard Road, or don't mind a 2 bedroom apartment like in Bukit Timah ..

cheers

Now, to put that into an even better perspective, Orchard Road in in the Central Business District (South Central Singapore). This means you are only 30 minutes from Orchard Road from virtually anywhere on the island. and the further out you go, with some exceptions, the cheaper the rentals become. You gonna have to make a prelim trip as you budget will allow you to stay most anywhere and still be within your OB markers.

Oh, one other thing, Singapore is known as a city-state for a reason.

I just had a look at the work address and it is in Marina Bay Boulevard.

I will wait til i get to Singapore and book a hotel for a week and then look around but I was trying to get an idea of what was available, where and how much and if there were any websites you guys could recommend.

In fact, this forum exists solely at the pleasure of the real estate portal that is Singapore Expats.

There's a link that says "Serviced apartments" at the top of this page, and another one with "Search property", how much more specific do you need???

You basically want someone else to find a place for you without having to do anything yourself, is what you're saying. More foreign talent coming to Singapore

If you have nothing civil to say don't bother saying anything.

Almost seems like a demand, doesn't it. Probably the phrasing and curtness of it made it seem strident, and probably caused a bit of grinding of teeth by some of our readers. It struck me that ways as well, truth be known. :-|

Going by his nick he should have masters, in managing people :D :D

well, to SAP1: you can get a 10,000 $ apartment in Orchard or more .. per month .. the issue is not 6 months, if you read my posting carefully ..

the issue is how far is "FAR" and whether your Royal highness would be satisfied with a 20 minute travel, by the world's lowest standard and dirtiest train system (if you believe some of the expats whining) or whether you want to be chauffer driven to work .. or if you want to stay Smack in the midst of Marina Boulevard (and lull yourself to sleep with the constant noise of jack hammers/earth movers and all the nearby construction .. )

So... my answer sticks: COME HERE, and take a look see.

If you want answers to be customised, let me send you my back account: for a small fee, let me do the leg work .. to suite your highness' specific tastes ..

come to think of it, it is due to people like you there are a zillion agents who claim to 'service expats' .. (i.e. whack you guys blind .. )

good luck .. and don't ruin your friday ..
