Nursery/Preschool/Kindergarden confusion

Post by wannamove » Tue, 09 Aug 2011 1:46 am

I have been browsing these forums and the terminology is kind of confusion. Can someone shed a light on what these terms mean?

Did I kind of get it right?

Nursery - till age of 3 (?)
Preschool = Kindergarden - 3-5 yrs

There are different names for some of the same years depending on what school the child attends. Below is a basic summation for most International Schools:

Nursery: 2-4

K1, P1, PreK or Year 1: 4 turning 5
K2, P2, Kindergarten or Year 2: 5 turning 6

First Grade or Year 3: 6 turning 7

The "Year 1, 2, 3" are for the British School system. The Australian school is also on a different calendar (January intake) so the ages of the child may vary than from the above. I'm not sure if this is also the same for the local schools.
