Has anyone here been to KL/Genting? Any tips for first time travelers?

Hi SMS..

I didn't mean to offend coz i can always look up the web for general travel info.
I just wanted to know if there were any 'traveller tips' ppl would like to share... thats all.

Please feel free to pull it off if it will warrant unwanted responses.

It's just that your original post lacked context and such open-ended call for advice attracts all sorts of spammers.

Note, though, that wikitravel--being a wiki--is usually culled from the collective experience of people who've been to places, which--you guessed it--is first hand experience.

Maybe if you ask for more specific spots, you wouldn't attract spammers.

Duly noted.

Let me rephrase my own query...

I would like if anyone could share info on places to see (apart from the regular touristy attractions), hotel recommendations and any information gained from personal experience that has not been blogged on the net for everyone to see.

If I wrote my horror experiences with some of the hotels I've been in KL, I'll probably end up being sued. :P

Seriously, I used to write a lot of online reviews of the hotels I've been to but with the demands of work, I don't get to do it anymore. But you can't be wrong with most of the reviews of the hotels in tripadvisor.com. ;-)

Actually a lot has been written online about KL... Though there are a lot of stories about bag snatchers there, (knock on wood) I haven't experienced it. I guess it helps that one is street smart and avoids dodgy places. I do admit that when I first went to KL 4 years ago, I was very anxious but after several trips later, I got to know my way around a bit. Enough to take my sisters on a whirlwind trip around the touristy places there early this year.

I hope you enjoy yourself there.
