Oh, I really think it kinda does!
Your salary level is fine to good, and more than many locals so you can't expect much help from that quarter. You might like to find the police, or charitable party to assist but honestly...... since you are not Greece or Portugal nobody is going to just give you money because you spent far more than you can afford.
This scam, along with prostitution, is probably THE oldest profession and definitely the oldest trick in the book.
The thing that surprises me over and over again is the numbers that fall for this and the so-called 'phone scams' that seem to be getting more prevalent these days. Having said that there is a stat in TODAY newspaper that says something like 90% of all emails worldwide is a scam and so......there must be plenty of people out there getting conned to make it profitable.

a) The chances of finding the people who scammed you are close to zero and even if you did find them and successfully prosecute them, the chances that they would actually have any money would be very small.
b) You could make an appeal to people in general to send you money in order to pay off your debt (aint the internet a great place) but frankly, your story is not truly compelling in a way that would cause people to want to give you money.
Thus, you really only have a couple of approaches.
a) Contact the banks and credit card companies. Tell them you cannot pay. Ask for zero interest repayment plan that lets you live while contributing to paying off the debt.
b) Disappear. Go to some other country. Forget about the debts. Start life anew.
I really don't see any other options.

That's the difference with 'family' and at a time like this, family comes first for everybody. That means mine comes before yours, for example.
