HDMI cable + starhub box (volume issues)

Post by taxico » Sun, 31 Jul 2011 6:22 pm

ok. so i broke the RGB component video cable while swopping cable boxes.

the RGB cable used to feed video to my flat screen, coupled with a red and white RCA audio cable feeding audio to the said tv.

in the past, i would set the TV volume at a pre-set number and leave the TV remote aside, adjusting audio only using the cableTV box's audio control.

i just bought a cheap $29 set of HDMI cables and plugged it into the tv and cable box.

i found out that i can no longer control adjust the audio using the cableTV remote (like i previously could using RCA audio cables).

the volume can only be adjusted via the TV remote.

Q. is this normal? or do i have a bum (yes, it's cheap) HDMI cable?

I can verify it later (if you insist) but my guess is: it is normal.
I have my box hooked up via optical link and it also does not respond to the pilot. Secondly, RCA is an analog signal and it is very easy to be processed (amplified etc.). HDMI, optical, coax, are digital, you would need to process the signal digitally by a software to get it lauder or more quite. Possible, but also likely that they have not implemented this.

thanks x9. funny thing is, when i switch inputs on the tv to DVD, the sound from the cable box (hdmi) still comes through...

i'll just leave it. don't worry about testing this... i merely wanted to know if the cable is working normally.
