Hello everyone,
after spending several hours in WWW and especially on this board I'm still kind of lost regarding a possible move to Singapore.
I'm in a relationship since a few years and my BF has been offered a good job (with german expat contract) in Singapore. He might be able to start in March 2012.
I'm not yet sure if it is no problem to receive a permit for myself to stay in Singapore for the 2/3 years he will work there. But I would assume that his company will be able to manage it. They will provide us with an apartment, insurance and all that stuff.
His salary will be good enough to keep both of us alive hopefully.
Of course I want to work in Singapore otherwise I might go crazy.
Right now I work as medical assistant (MFA) and I really like my job (in Germany this education takes 3 years). I already searched for open positions, but I'm not really sure what to do.
It seems that if I work in my old job in Singapore, I will earn much less and I will only have 10 days for vacation.
So I thought I could do a further education. Maybe something language or medical related.
Studying is not an option I think without an Abitur / highschool degree.
Thats the point.
Does anyone know whom I could contact which option I do have based on my job I did in Germany?
It reall seems that working as a medical assistant isn't that recognized in Singapore.
I'm so happy for any help or useful hint...
Thanks in advance
Sandra

The good news is, provided he can get an employment pass of his own, if you two can document that the common law relationship existed prior to coming to Singapore, then the ICA will give you a LTVP probably for 1 year at a time.
The bad news is, as you do NOT have a legal relationship either here or in Germany, you will only be able to secure employment based only on your own qualifications. Having said that, if you don't have at least a diploma (degree) you will not meet any of the EP qualifications with the exception of the P1 visa which states you will have to have a base salary in excess of SG$8K/mo, which as you already know, isn't going to happen. You cannot get a dependent's pass as you do not have a legal relationship, so you cannot work using a Letter of Consent.
His salary will be good enough to keep both of us alive hopefully.

@sms
thanks for your reply. My BF will have a meeting soon with HR and they already know that this might be a problem. We already live together since 3 years...proving that isn't a big deal.
For my education as a medical assistant I of course have a diploma.
My main issue right now is to concentrate on my possibilities, which options I do have regarding further education.
I already thought of searching a school where I can start a training as a foreign language correspondent (learning a language is always a good thing). Is there any institution that could tell me what is possible or not with my educational background?
Any ideas ?
Thank you so much

A good place to start looking for a school is at the Council for Private Education website (
www.cpe.gov.sg) under their student "tab". Singapore has had a few rough spots with bad schools here and it's good to make sure any options are government recognized and approved.
There are some great programs in Singapore, have a look through the CPE website and good luck!

That would be drastic and painful, but could be the only way to a quicker recovery. Wuhan's was really drastic but at least it worked.
