Which banks are better for expats looking for home loans?

Post by nmgsgp » Sun, 17 Jul 2011 12:09 am

Hi all,

I am a foreigner married to a singaporean. We currently live overseas but plan to move to Singapore in the next 1-2 years and, hence, looking into the option to buy a condo in Singapore. However, a lot depends on the amount of home loan we can get. So, here are some of my questions, I am hoping to get some clarity:

a) Will we qualify as locals or foreigners?
b) Which banks are better for foreigners looking for home loans?
c) When shopping for home loans, what will have better chance of getting a better deal - going directly to the banks or going through some agents etc?

I will be very thankful if you can share any insights or personal experiences.

Thanks.

nmgsgp,
Here is some tips (true facts). Many people didn't know that the banker sits in the showroom are offering better rates compared to their colleagues who sits in the bank even for the same bank. It doesn't matters whether you are buying that particular property from that showroom or not, all the bankers who sits there could help u with other projects or even refinancing. Sometimes DBS (eg. Below 2% lock for 3 yrs) beats Standard Chart and somethings OCBC beats them but whatever it is, always get 3 quotes and compare. My friend is a property agents and sometimes she get to know new friends(Bankers) while working in the projects. Could give you more information when time is near. By the way, where are you living in right now?
