Right. Now on what basis could the landlord sue you? Have you signed into some contractual obligation? Did you look at the LOI.... what does it say?

p.s. Speaking as a landlord I have some difficulty understanding people who hand over $$$'s, have no idea what they're agreeing to, then worry what they've agreed but won't read what they've signed. With the best will in the world (and I'm all for landlord registration, statutory deposit holding etc) you can see why some opportunistic landlords do take the mickey.

I assure you that in such a small town, most people are unscrupulous and what you've encountered is nothing uncommon.

There are a few army barracks that would most probably take you in if you approach the guards. The streets are clean and you would most likely find them comfortable as a last resort.

Really truly sorry to hear about that once again. I wept for a good 10 minutes over your unfortunate circumstances.
