My Maid got Tuberculosis!

Post by yvonnegenius » Mon, 11 Jul 2011 8:25 pm

OMG, my maid contacted tuberculosis, and is going to be hospitalised for 2 weeks....my family is at risk, and I just realised the insurance does not cover this disease!

Any advice on how I can handle the medical bills. I wanted to isolate her at home, but seems like not possible. Anyone has any experience on this before? I am lost....

Before you start worrying about medical bills, you need to check that your family is all clear from the disease. Just because you had a BCG jab back home, it doesn't mean that you can't contract TB here.

Ministry of Health will normally require anyone who has been in prolonged contact with the affected party to go for a series of skin patch tests at the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Don't mess around. Get this checked now. If any of your family do test positive for the TB antibodies it can be easily fixed with a rather long duration antibiotic course.

It's happened to my family and I before too! Just go get the jab:) I guess it may also be a good idea to send her back so she can recover in the comfort of her home.
